North Refineries Company — Storage Department Terminal

Full rehabilitation of an operating oil-distribution terminal. Scope: supply, installation and commissioning of 100 semi-pneumatic smart loading arms (Gassó, Spain), integrated PD metering skids for gasoline and diesel measurement and control, industrial compressors for vapour recovery, full replacement of terminal pipework and manifold systems, and KROHNE flow instrumentation and control valves. Control systems upgraded and operator training delivered on site.

North Refineries Company — Kayara Department Terminal

Turnkey automation of the fuel-distribution system: Face-ID cameras, driver data registration and truck plate-number recognition, integrated into a control system that verifies each driver and vehicle before loading, matches authorised allocations to each truck, and ensures every vehicle receives only its approved product and quantity — including access control, database integration, loading-authorisation logic, live monitoring, reporting, full testing, commissioning and operator training.

Qayara Face-Recognition Loading Authorisation System

North Refineries Company — Kayara Department Terminal. A closed-loop identity and authorisation system that ties every driver, vehicle and product allocation together before a single litre is released.

Why this project matters commercially

NRC's problem was not a lack of loading capacity — it was leakage: allocations that did not reliably map to the driver and truck actually loading. Beyond Borders was engaged as a single accountable contractor to close that gap, rather than NRC coordinating separate camera, database and control-system vendors itself.

This shifted the relationship from a one-off equipment sale to a systems-integration contract: we specified, sourced, integrated and commissioned Face-ID cameras, ANPR plate recognition, a driver/vehicle/allocation database and the loading-authorisation logic as one deliverable, then trained NRC's operators and remained the responsible party for the working system — not just its parts.

That single-point-of-responsibility model is what opens the after-sales relationship: ongoing support, database maintenance and feature extensions sit naturally with the contractor who built the authorisation logic, extending the engagement well past commissioning.

Complexity

What made this hard to deliver

The system had to correctly correlate three independent data sources in real time — facial identification of the driver, automatic number-plate recognition of the truck, and the pre-approved product/quantity allocation on file — and refuse loading on any mismatch, without slowing down terminal throughput.

It had to integrate into an existing, already-operating terminal: live automation and PD metering-skid control from a prior phase, site network and power conditions typical of an upstream field location, and a live driver database that could not be taken offline to build against.

Beyond the technical integration, the logic itself carried operational risk: false rejects stop a legitimate truck at the gate, false accepts defeat the purpose of the system. Getting that threshold right required iterative testing against real drivers and vehicles on site, not just a lab environment, before NRC would sign off on commissioning.
